My prize succulent rotted from the inside out last month

Had this massive echeveria I'd been growing for 2 years on my kitchen windowsill in Denver. I watered it every 10 days like clockwork but I guess the pot didn't drain right. One morning I touched the base and it just collapsed into mush. Lost the whole plant except for 3 tiny leaves I managed to prop. Has anyone else had a succulent fail on them even when you followed the rules?

Not gonna lie, I water my succulents like once a month max and they're all thriving. Maybe you were giving it too much love, some plants actually want to be neglected a little.

Yeah, it's like how some people thrive with minimal attention, just plants and people both have different needs.

Friend of mine in Phoenix lost her whole collection of lithops cause she put them in regular potting soil. They just melted one day like they gave up on life.
