My neighbor told me to stop watering my fiddle leaf fig so much, and it actually worked

I was giving it a full cup every three days, but she said to wait until the top two inches of soil were bone dry. The leaves perked up within a week, has anyone else had a plant that thrived on neglect?

Not the same plant but my snake plant straight up thrives when I forget about it for weeks. I water it like once a month now and it put out three new leaves last summer. That whole "neglect" thing really works for certain plants. I killed my first one by loving it too much with constant watering. Some of them just want to be left alone. My pothos is the same way. I only water it when the leaves start looking a little droopy and it's taking over my bookshelf. The more I ignore it, the happier it seems to be.

My fiddle leaf fig died when I tried that exact same dry soil method last year.

I read a plant care book that said fiddle leaf figs actually like consistent moisture. The author argued letting them dry out completely shocks their roots. It made me rethink my whole watering schedule.
