My neighbor told me I was drowning my jade plant

She came over last month and saw it on my porch, said 'You're giving it too much love, let it dry out between drinks.' I was watering it every five days like my ferns. Switched to every three weeks and it's finally putting out new leaves. How do you figure out the right water schedule for your succulents?

That "too much love" line is so true... it's like we kill things with kindness sometimes. I see it with people who over-help their kids, or managers who can't stop micromanaging. Good care isn't about more, it's about the right amount at the right time. You just have to watch and learn what the plant actually needs, not what you feel like giving it.

What if the problem is we've all gotten too scared to care? You talk about watching and learning, but sometimes a plant just needs water, not a committee meeting. That "right amount" idea sounds good, but it leads to people doing nothing, afraid to make a mistake. More love might drown a few plants, but no love kills every single one. I'd rather be the person who tried too hard than the one who stood back and watched something wither.

Ever stick your finger in the soil to check?
