My neighbor said my hydrangeas would never bloom again. She was wrong.
My neighbor Ruth, who has gardened on our street in Portland for 30 years, told me my hydrangeas were done for after I pruned them in late March. She said the buds were set the year before and I had just cut off every flower. I almost dug them up. But I waited, and by mid July I got 11 blooms off one bush. Anyone else get bad pruning advice from a well meaning neighbor?
