My neighbor in Denver swore by watering succulents with ice cubes

She told me to put three cubes on the soil every Tuesday to avoid overwatering. After a month, my jade plant started dropping leaves like crazy. Has anyone else tried this method and had it go wrong?

Oh man, I saw a whole thread about this on a plant subreddit. The cold from the ice can shock the roots, especially on desert plants like jade. They're built for warm, dry conditions, not a sudden freeze. Plus, the slow melt might not even wet the soil deep down where the roots need it. It just seems like a bad hack that went viral.

Watched my buddy kill a perfectly good aloe vera trying that ice cube trick his mom swore by. The plant basically went into shock, turned mushy at the base, and just gave up. He was so confused because the top soil always felt dry, but the roots were rotting in cold, wet muck below. Some advice just needs to melt away and disappear.
