My aunt's weird plant comment at a family dinner
We were eating at my aunt's place in Springfield last Sunday, and she pointed to her big fiddle-leaf fig. She said, 'You know, I talk to it every morning, but I'm pretty sure it just tolerates me for the water.' It was so funny and honest, it made me think maybe I take my own plant care a bit too seriously. Do you ever feel like your plants are just putting up with you?

Ever wonder if they'd just pack up and leave if they could? My peace lily gave me the silent treatment for a month until I moved it away from the vent... now we have an understanding. I stopped reading care guides and just watch what they do, like if the leaves droop or get crispy. It takes the pressure off, you know? They're just green things living their slow little lives.

Honestly your aunt gets it, plants are basically moody roommates that need rent paid in sunlight and water. I used to stress over perfect care routines but now I just check the soil and leaves for what they actually need. That fiddle-leaf fig is definitely judging her from across the room though, they're all drama. Keep it simple and don't overthink it, they'll survive just fine.

Your aunt is onto something with that "tolerates me for the water" line. I stopped talking to my plants a while back. They get light, water, and fertilizer on a strict schedule. It's a business deal. They look good, I don't kill them. Why complicate it with feelings they probably don't have?
