Killed my fiddle leaf fig trying to fix root rot and it took 5 months to figure out
My fiddle leaf fig started dropping leaves last November so I repotted it into a bigger pot thinking that would help. Turns out I just made the root rot worse because the new pot held way more water. I spent 5 months watering less, moving it around my apartment in Austin, buying a moisture meter, and googling symptoms at 2am before I finally pulled it out and saw the roots were mush. By then it was too late and the thing was bare. Now I know to check drainage holes first instead of just sizing up the pot, but man that was a slow lesson. Has anyone actually saved a fig after root rot or is it always a lost cause?
