Just realized the week I got my grandma's 1970s fern cuttings to root was the best plant week I've had in years
My grandma in Bakersfield kept this huge Boston fern on her porch for like 40 years. When she passed, my aunt gave me a shoebox of dried rhizomes and told me good luck. That was 2019. I tried everything, peat, perlite, even the water glass trick, and nothing worked. Lost all of them.
Then last October my aunt finds another tin in the garage with a few more pieces. I planted them in plain old potting soil in a clay pot on my kitchen sill, forgot about them mostly, just watered when the top got dry. Three weeks later, tiny fiddleheads. I literally sat on the floor and stared at them.
My mom came over and said grandma used to talk to hers every morning while she drank her coffee. I don't do that, but I check on them first thing now.
Anyone ever get a plant going from a cutting that old? Curious if yours took as long as mine did.
