Just realized I used to buy all my plants at the big box store in town

For years I'd grab whatever looked nice at the garden center on Main Street, but half the stuff would struggle. Last spring I finally visited the native plant nursery out on Route 9, and the lady there explained how the local soil and light were different. Now my backyard actually looks alive. Has anyone else had a specific spot where the plants just seem to work better?

My local hardware store's garden section is a death trap for plants. I switched to this tiny family-run greenhouse over by the old mill, and the difference is crazy. The guy there knows exactly which tomato varieties won't get blight in our humid summers.

Oh man, @rileynelson, that hits home... my track record with those big box store plants is pretty bad. I'm basically running a hospice for basil on my back porch. Might need to find my own old mill guy before I kill anything else.

Big box stores work fine if you know what you're doing, @seth218.
