I called plant music a total gimmick for years

My friend in Phoenix swore her fiddle leaf fig grew twice as fast with classical music. I thought it was nonsense until I tried it on my own struggling monstera for a month. The new leaf it put out was noticeably bigger and darker green than the last three. Has anyone else had a plant respond that clearly to something they thought was fake?

That's really interesting, but it sounds like a classic case of correlation not being causation. Plants can put out better growth for a ton of reasons you might not notice, like a slight change in light or finally getting the watering right. The music might have just been on during a time when the plant was already set to improve. It's easy to link the two events in our heads. I've seen my own plants bounce back from rough patches without any sound at all.

Yeah, the "correlation not causation" thing is so real. I get what you mean about our brains just linking stuff that happens at the same time. I've totally been there, getting excited about some new plant care trick only to realize later it was probably just the seasons changing. It's a good reminder to not jump to conclusions.

Honestly, it's just a plant. Like @park.abby said, we connect stuff that isn't really connected. Your monstera probably just finally got enough light or the fertilizer kicked in. People read way too much into this stuff.
