Dropped $300 on a custom grow tent setup and I'm not sure it was worth it

Honestly, I got really into growing some rare ferns and wanted perfect humidity. I bought a full kit with a tent, lights, and a fancy humidifier. It cost me about $300 total. The ferns are doing okay, but the setup takes up a whole corner of my room and is kind of loud. My friend says I should have just used a clear plastic bin and a cheap light, which would have cost maybe $50. I feel like I went overboard for a hobby. Has anyone else spent a bunch on gear and later thought a simpler way was better?

That $300 buys you more than just a tent. It buys the right to fail without killing your plants. A plastic bin is a sealed coffin if you get the humidity wrong for a day. The tent's exhaust fan, even if it's loud, moves air and stops mold. You paid for a safety net your friend's cheap idea doesn't have.

Honestly, that safety net is worth every penny when you see your first healthy harvest.

Exactly! I lost a whole batch of seedlings last year in a plastic tub setup. Woke up one morning and they were just gone, covered in this fuzzy grey mess. The tent feels like a real safety net, like you said. That fan noise is annoying but it's the sound of my plants actually breathing.
