Appreciation post: My friend's offhand comment about her fern collection

She said she talks to them while watering, and I always thought that was a bit much. But then I noticed my own peace lily perked up after I started playing music in the kitchen, maybe it's not just about the water. Anyone else have a plant that seems to respond to something besides basic care?

You mentioned your peace lily perking up with music. I get why people see that, but honestly, I'm pretty sure it's just a coincidence from better care habits. My spider plant looked happier when I moved it, but it was just getting more indirect light. I think we just notice the good stuff more when we're paying extra attention.

Yeah I mean I get that, it's easy to mix up cause and effect. I started keeping a super simple log for my plants, just like "watered, moved, fed" on my phone notes. After a month it was obvious my fern only cared about humidity, not my playlists.

Is it really worth keeping a log over this? I mean, worst case your plant gets some extra attention and a little music. Best case you feel like a plant whisperer for zero extra effort. Seems like a lot of work to prove something that doesn’t really matter either way.
