Has anyone else ever had a bone folder that felt like it had a rough spot right out of the package? I got one a couple years ago from a craft store and the edge was actually kinda sharp, like it could scratch things. I ended up taking a little piece of fine grit sandpaper to just the edge and it smoothed right out, but I left the main surface alone. Never had marring trouble after that, but I also wax it before each use like pat said.

... actually I gotta disagree a bit here. I've been using bone folders for years and never sanded a single one, never had any issues with marring leather. The whole point of a bone folder is it's smooth and hard, if you sand it you're just making it rough and that could cause more problems than it solves. Maybe if you're working with super thin or delicate leather it matters, but for regular veg tan and tooling leather a well-waxed bone folder slides just fine. I think people get way too caught up in prepping tools that are already ready to use out of the box.

@jadew63 has a point though. Sometimes you do gotta knock a rough edge off factory tools.
