Is there a real difference between wheat and corn paste for book repairs?

I've been using corn starch paste for years on hinges and spine repairs, but a binder in Cincinnati told me last month that wheat paste is the only way to go for archival work. He claims corn paste gets brittle after 5 years and I've seen some of my older repairs crack too, so am I just lazy or is he actually onto something? Has anyone else switched and noticed a real difference in how long the fix holds up?
