Gold leaf kept flaking off until I warmed the glue
I was ready to toss the whole project out. Heated the adhesive just a little with my iron and it stuck perfect. Such a simple fix after all that stress.

But like, will it actually fail later?

My buddy Nate had the same issue with an old picture frame last spring. He used a hair dryer on the glue for about twenty seconds and that gold leaf is still holding strong six months later. Reading what @jenny_coleman said about it being a band-aid fix actually reminds me of how worried he was it would fail. But sometimes the method just needs that extra bit of warmth to activate properly, it doesn't mean the whole project was wrong. His frame is proof that a little heat can be the real solution, not just a quick trick. What kind of project were you working on?

I mean, heating the glue sounds like a temporary band-aid, not a real fix. If it needed heat to work right, then the glue or your surface prep was probably wrong from the start. You might just be setting yourself up for bigger problems later when it dries and cools back down.
