Bought a $60 book press from a craft store that warped all my pages
I picked up this book press from a big box craft store about 3 months ago thinking it would save me money. The wood was pretty thin and when I tightened it down, the top board actually bowed in the middle. Wound up with 4 books that have wavy pages and a dented cover because the pressure wasn't even. Has anyone else had cheap wooden presses mess up their work?

Oh man, that sucks so bad! But I gotta say, those cheap craft store presses aren't really meant for the kind of tightening you tried. They're mostly for pressing flowers or light flattening, not for bookbinding pressure. If you crank down hard on a thin piece of wood, it's gonna bend like you saw. Next time you're better off with some heavy books stacked on top, or you can make your own press with a couple thick boards and some hardware from the hardware store. Way cheaper and way flatter.
