Vent: Our book club spent $400 on a 'guided discussion kit' that was a total scam

Our group in Austin decided to try this fancy online kit for our monthly pick, 'The Midnight Library'. It promised deep questions and expert analysis. We each chipped in $20, so that's $400 total for a PDF that was just a bunch of generic questions copied from free blogs. The timeline was last month, and we felt totally ripped off. I'm warning everyone to stick to your own discussions or free resources. Has your club ever wasted money on something like this?

What did the company say when you tried to get a refund for that useless PDF? I would be furious and would have demanded my money back immediately, because selling stolen content like that is just wrong. It makes me wonder if they have scammed other book clubs too. Did you check their reviews online before buying, or did they seem totally legit?

My buddy tried that and they ghosted him completely, no refund at all.

Yeah, demanding a refund like @cameron747 said is the right move. We got our money back for a bad guide by blasting their social media with screenshots of the junk they sold us. Sometimes public pressure is the only thing that works on these shady companies. I would not let that go.
