The audiobook narrator switch nearly made me quit the series in Detroit

I rolled my eyes when my book club said the audio version changed narrators after book 2, but the new guy reads every character with this weird monotone that kills the tension. Has anyone else had a narrator swap tank a series for them, or am I just picky?
