Spent $85 on a rare book my book club tore apart in 10 minutes
I found a signed first edition of a lesser known novel at a flea market in Austin last month and paid $85 thinking I scored big. Brought it to our book club meetup to show off, and the whole group spent the night ripping apart the plot holes and flat characters. One member even pulled up reviews showing why it never got popular, and I felt like a total fool for dropping cash on something the majority hated. Turns out the author's own notes inside the cover had a different ending that everyone agreed was way better. Now I'm stuck with a paperweight that makes me cringe every time I see it on my shelf. Has anyone else paid serious money for a book that the group roasted, or did I just catch a bad recommendation from the seller?
