Someone in my club said my discussion questions were 'leading the witness' like a lawyer
I used to ask things like 'Wasn't the main character just awful?' but now I start with 'How did you feel about the main character's choices?' (it's way better). Anyone else get called out on their question style?

My buddy tried to run a book club and his first question was basically "So, the villain was the real hero, right?" Half the room just shut down. He learned the hard way that if you sound like you're giving a test, people just give you the answer they think you want. Now he writes his questions down first to make sure they're actually open. It made a huge difference.

Oh man, my friend got roasted for asking "Don't you think the author's message was obvious?" It was a whole thing.
