PSA: audiobooks vs physical reading completely changed how I process a story

I read The Three-Body Problem on paper and barely followed the timeline, but when I listened to the audiobook version during my commute last month, the whole nonlinear structure clicked instantly. Has anyone else found one format way more effective for complex plots?

Caught me off guard how much the narrator's voice can actually change the story. For something dense like Three-Body, the audiobook lets you just drift along with the weird timeline stuff without fighting the page. I tried reading Dune on paper twice and gave up both times. Then I threw the audiobook on during a long drive and suddenly the whole political mess made sense. There's something about hearing a human voice carry you through the tough parts that your eyes just fight against on the page.

Dune audiobook narrator had me actually following the spice politics somehow.
