Our club picked a 900 page book and half of us quit by the second meeting
I pushed back when everyone voted for the giant history book last month, and sure enough only 4 of the 11 of us finished it, so we ended up talking about the first 100 pages for an hour. I get wanting something meaty, but is a book nobody finishes really better than a short one everybody argues about?
Watched my old book club do the exact same thing with some Civil War doorstop, think two people got past page 200 and we spent three meetings rehashing the same five chapters. Ended up dissolving by spring. Still bugs me we never got to the part everyone actually wanted to talk about.
