Our book club meeting about 'The Road' got so heated someone walked out
Honestly, it was at Sarah's house last Thursday, and the fight was over whether the ending was hopeful or just bleak. Tbh, Mark from my work kept yelling that the man's sacrifice was pointless, and Janet actually grabbed her coat and left after 20 minutes of it. Ngl, it ruined the whole vibe and we had to cut the discussion short. Has your club ever had a debate that totally blew up like that?

Yeah, we had a similar meltdown over "Blood Meridian." The trick that saved us was a talking stick, no joke. Whoever held this stupid little wooden frog got to speak. It forced people to actually listen instead of just waiting to yell. We still use it for the heavy books.

Totally get it, that book is a powder keg. We read it a few years back and my friend Mike got so mad about the lack of world-building details he nearly knocked over a wine glass. We had to institute a "no raising voices" rule after that meeting. Switched to a cozy mystery the next month just to let everyone cool off. Some books just hit a nerve and there's no coming back.
