Just realized our book club's 'no spoilers' rule completely backfired this week

We read a mystery novel, but nobody could discuss the actual plot, so the whole meeting was just people talking about the font size. Has this ever happened to your group?

What's the worst book club detour you've had? My group once spent 45 minutes debating if a character's cat was a metaphor, then realized the author just really liked cats lol.
