I finally spoke my mind about the romance novel selection at our community center's book club

Now some members are giving me the cold shoulder.

Last year at my library group, I was in the same spot. I just said flat out that I found the constant billionaire plots kinda silly and asked if we could try something like "The Hating Game" since it had a real office rivalry thing going on. A couple people looked annoyed at first, but then Lisa admitted she was tired of the billionaires too. We read it, and next month someone picked a romance set during WWII. It just took one specific ask to shift things.

Yeah, that tracks. Saw a book blogger say the same thing about just naming a good alternative to break a cycle.

When you mentioned speaking your mind on the romance picks, I get why that's tough. I used to shrug off those books as just fluff before. But then I borrowed one from a friend and finished it in a day. The story actually made me care about the people in it, which surprised me. Maybe some members feel put on the spot if they really like those novels. Could you pick one with a strong plot to show them what you mean?
