Hit page 200 in a book club pick and realized I hated every character but everyone else loved them
We read 'The Midnight Library' for our group in Portland and I was the only one who couldn't stand it. Everyone talked about how deep and life-affirming it was. By page 200 I was just counting down until it ended. Nora felt like she never actually learned anything, just bounced around until the plot ran out. I brought it up at the meeting and got blank stares. Has anyone else been the sole dissenter on a popular book and had the group just not get it?

My book club did 'Where the Crawdads Sing' and I was the weirdo who kept saying the marsh murder mystery was way less interesting than just describing the bugs and plants for 200 pages.

Start a nature journal on the side. You'll have a blast just noting down all the bugs and plants you spot without a murder mystery attached. It's way more fun when you don't have to fake caring about a plot.

Double down and ask if liking unlikable characters is just a Portland thing or maybe a you thing.
