Hit 50 books read this year and my book club called me a liar
I finished my 50th book last week, it was The House in the Cerulean Sea. Told my book club about it at our meeting for that sci-fi novel pick and half of them said there's no way I actually read that many books. One lady said I must be skimming or skipping chapters. But I just read fast on my lunch breaks and before bed, nothing fancy. Has anyone else in here hit a big reading number and got questioned about it?

50 books a year works out to about one a week. That is not some crazy number for a person who reads instead of watching TV. My question for you is what did you actually say when they called you out? Did you just sit there and take it or did you ask them how many they've read? Because if they are in a book club and can't believe someone reads a book a week, that says more about their reading habits than yours. You don't have to prove anything to people who would rather doubt you than look at their own pace. Next time someone questions it, ask them straight up what their count is and see how fast they change the subject.

Saw a study once that said the average person reads around 200-300 words per minute, but fast readers can do 700+. If you've been reading since you were a kid, that speed just builds up naturally. 50 books is about 4 a month, which is totally doable if you skip scrolling on your phone for 30 minutes. Those folks in your book club probably just spend their lunch breaks on social media instead of turning pages.
