Found a murder mystery club in Chicago that banned spoilers completely

I walked into this indie bookstore off Milwaukee Ave last month and sat in on their debate about The Silent Patient. Someone accidentally blurted the ending and the moderator literally rang a bell and made them sit in the corner for 5 minutes. Has anyone else been to a book club with rules that strict?

That bookstore on Milwaukee Ave sounds like my kind of place honestly. I was in a true crime podcast meetup last year where someone started reading from the wiki page for a case we hadn't covered yet and the host literally took their phone and put it in a ziplock bag until the meeting was over. It's wild how serious people get about spoilers. My neighbor runs a fantasy book club and they have a whole system where if you've read ahead you have to wear a special bracelet so everyone knows not to talk plot with you until the chapter catch up date. Seems extreme but honestly I get it.

Oh man, one time I got banned from a D&D group for joking about a character death.

You ever try talking to the DM one on one before it gets to that point? I've found that most DMs will at least hear you out if you just say "hey, my bad, the joke landed wrong." One time I got kicked for laughing at a PC falling into a pit trap, but I messaged the guy later and explained I wasn't laughing at the player, just the situation. They let me back after I apologized and promised to read the room better. Sometimes it's not even the joke itself, it's how you say it and when.
