Used a coffee can to patch a boiler, and it's still holding up

I was out on a job for a boiler with a small crack on a curved section. The owner wanted it going quick, and I didn't have a proper patch on hand. So, I spotted an old coffee can in the break area and cut a piece to shape. After cleaning the spot, I slapped on some high-heat glue and pressed the can piece over it. My partner told me I was crazy, but we started the boiler and there was no leak. The pressure stayed right, and we finished the call without a hitch. It was a dumb move that paid off, and now the crew won't let me forget it. Just shows that sometimes you gotta get creative with what's around.

Clean the area with a wire brush first, it MAKES all the difference. I've used soda cans for temp patches and they hold if you prep right. Just don't let it become a permanent solution!

Totally get that need for a quick fix with whatever's around! Once my dryer vent hose ripped late at night, and all I had was duct tape and a stiff folder from my recycle bin. Cut the folder into a sleeve, wrapped it with like half the tape roll, and it held for a whole week until the new part came. Felt like a genius in the moment, even if it looked ridiculous. Those makeshift solutions can be so satisfying when they actually work.

Seriously, was the dryer that dangerous to use for one night?
