That morning on a grain bin roof changed how I brace myself
I was up on a 60-foot grain bin outside Decatur last fall, welding a patch on a corroded seam. The wind kicked up hard around 10 AM and I nearly lost my footing because I was leaning wrong on the ladder. I realized I'd been bracing with my knees locked instead of keeping a slight bend, like my old journeyman told me but I never listened. Now I drop my center of gravity and keep my hips square to the work, even on flat catwalks. Any of you guys have a near miss that made you change your stance on a job?
