PSA: That $40 Amazon welding hood I bought last year was a fire hazard waiting to happen

Swapped it out for a proper auto-darkening hood after the lens popped off mid-weld on a tank repair job, and now I can actually see what I'm doing without worrying about sparks hitting my face.

This whole cheap tool trap gets people all the time. Everyone wants to save a buck on safety gear like welding hoods, gloves, or even extension cords. But the difference between a $40 hood and a decent one is basically night and day when you need it most. Same thing happens with power strips and surge protectors, people grab the $5 one from the clearance bin and wonder why it melts. Sometimes paying a little more upfront keeps you from paying a lot more later at the ER.
