Pro tip: I quit grinding my tube welds and started wire wheeling first
I always thought you had to go straight to the grinder on every tube weld, but after fighting a pinhole leak on a boiler tube job in Gary last week, I tried something different. My foreman said to hit it with a wire wheel on a drill first to knock off the slag and scale, then grind. I did that on the next 6 welds and they came out way cleaner with way less time spent chasing my grind marks. I was wrong about skipping that step, it saves me about 20 minutes a tube. Any of you doing this on water wall tubes or does it depend on the alloy?
Well look at you over here reinventing the wheel, or the wire wheel I guess. Next thing you know you'll tell me you've been breathing air this whole time too. Seriously though, 20 minutes a tube adds up fast when you're staring down a whole water wall.
