I had to pick between a 3/8 wall tube or a 1/2 inch for a high-pressure feed line
The specs were borderline, and my foreman said to go with the thicker one for safety. I chose the 3/8 to save on weight and cost, thinking the pressure rating was still okay. It held for the hydro test, but I'm second-guessing if that extra margin was worth skipping. What's your rule of thumb for making that call on a tight spec?

Remember my buddy's line that blew last year?

Your foreman had the right idea. On a high-pressure line, the extra safety margin from thicker wall is never a waste. Saving a bit on weight and cost isn't worth the risk of a future failure when the specs are already tight. I'd always take the extra margin for peace of mind.

Funny how people will cheap out on stuff like this but then spend top dollar on the latest phone they'll replace in two years. Kinda backwards when you think about it.
