Had a 3-inch schedule 80 nipple split on a steam line Tuesday morning

It was on a feed line at the old Baxter plant, and it let go right at the first thread. We had to shut down that whole loop, cut out the bad section, and weld in a new spool piece. Anyone have a guess why a new-ish fitting would fail like that?

Oh man, @clark.robin, my neighbor's sprinkler line blew last winter and it looked like a geyser in his front yard.
