Finally passed my code welding test after 3 tries
Blew the first two attempts on a 6G pipe test here in Philly because I kept rushing the root pass. This third one I slowed way down and just focused on keeping the arc tight, any of you guys have tricks for staying calm on the test floor?

Cracked a smile reading this (and not just because I've got the weld spatter scars to prove it). My trick for keeping cool on test floors is to pretend I'm just fixing a leaky pipe in a janitor's closet at 2am, not trying to impress some inspector with a clipboard. That mental switch helped me stop shaking so much, though I still burned through three pairs of gloves from sweating. Great job on passing, nothing beats that feeling of hearing the grinder stop and knowing you finally nailed it.

Funny how slowing down is the hardest thing to learn... my first welding test I tried to race through it so fast the inspector actually asked if I was trying to set a new land speed record. Probably didn't help that I had my torch grip so tight my knuckles went white halfway through the root pass. Glad you finally got that pipe test though, those 6G ones are the worst for making you second guess every bead you lay down.
