Old school torching gives you a feel for the metal that machines just can't match.

Oh man, @jadew63, I get what you're saying about the feel... but a modern machine with good temp control actually gives you more info. You can watch the color change in the heat zone and see exactly how the metal reacts to a steady temp. A handheld torch can have hot spots that trick you. It's a different kind of skill, but you still learn to read the metal.

That "feel for the metal" thing really DOES hit different. I miss that.
