Burned through $200 in cutting wheels before I figured out the trick

Was out on a job in Gary last month, trying to cut through 1-inch plate with a grinder and going through discs like crazy. Turns out I was pushing too hard and overheating the wheels, soon as I let the tool do the work one wheel lasted the whole shift. Anybody else learn this the hard way?

Read somewhere that light pressure actually cuts faster, sounds like you proved it.

Same trick applies to using a step drill bit on stainless. @veram99 is right, light pressure keeps the edge from glazing over and burning the tool.
