Why does nobody talk about how long it takes to set up a 4-player game of Twilight Imperium?

I finally convinced my group to try Twilight Imperium last Saturday in Seattle. We spent 45 minutes just sorting tokens and reading the rulebook before we even picked factions. I learned that you need to block out at least 6 hours for a full game, minimum. Has anyone else found a faster way to get through that setup phase?

By the time we finished setup, I’d aged enough to qualify for the senior discount.

Got through it by cutting the small talk at the start. Just jumped straight into the work, got it done faster that way.
