Unpopular opinion: Gloomhaven Jaws of the Lion really surprised me

I was super skeptical about it because I heard it was a watered down version of the big game. Last month my buddy brought his copy over and we played through the first 5 missions. The tutorial system actually worked way better than I expected and the story was pretty engaging. Has anyone else found the smaller version more fun than the original?

Same thing happens with board games and even video games. Sometimes the lighter version just respects your time more and gets to the fun part faster.
