The 200 player tournament that made me hate open drafting

Our local store ran a 200 person draft event last Saturday in Austin and everyone loved it except me, the table chaos made every pick feel random and rushed. I ended up with a deck that had zero synergy because three guys kept grabbing cards based on color not strategy, and when I asked about slower formats the organizer said "that's how real competition works." Has anyone else found a way to enjoy big draft nights without losing the fun of actual planning?

I used to swear big drafts were the best way to test real skill, but after watching a table of folks just grab bombs and color-coded piles, I totally get why you're frustrated. Any chance your store would run a smaller pod or a timed draft on the side for people who want more thought in their picks?
