That 6-hour Catan night in Austin where the dice literally vanished

We were mid-trade on a 10-point game when the green dice rolled off the table and slipped through a gap in the floorboards, so I had to spend 20 minutes digging them out with a butter knife while everyone just stared at the board, has anyone else lost a crucial component mid-game and had to improvise a replacement?

Grabbing a roll of masking tape to mark where the dice were supposed to land is my usual trick, but honestly the best save I ever pulled was using a piece of chewed gum to wedge a loose pawn back upright. Dice are the real heart of the game, so once one goes missing you basically gotta turn it into a drinking game and blame the floor for every bad roll. Sure it ruins the score keeping a little, but the chaos becomes the story people remember.
