Shoutout to the guy at the local game store who warned me about sleeving every card
He told me last month at Dragon's Lair in Austin that using penny sleeves on my all my Arkham Horror LCG cards would make the stack too tall for the box. I didn't listen and now I've got 40 bucks of sleeves that don't fit right and a box that won't close. Has anyone else had a store employee steer you wrong with advice that sounded solid at the time?

I switched to Dragon Shield clear mattes after the same thing happened to me with a different game. The penny sleeves just don't cut it for games where you shuffle a lot and need the box to close. You might be able to return the unused packs to Dragon's Lair if you still have the receipt, they're usually good about that kind of thing. What I did was just bite the bullet and re-sleeve the cards I actually play with, keeping the rest in a binder for storage. Sucks to learn the hard way but at least you won't make that mistake again.

Wait, did you actually crack the penny sleeves with your bare hands or was it more like a slow betrayal over time? I feel your pain though... I bought a whole box of those cheap sleeves for a card game once and ended up with split corners and sticky cards after like two shuffles. Ended up donating the whole mess to a local game store for their draft nights. Now I just accept that if I want my cards to last, I gotta pay the dragon shield tax... even though it hurts my wallet every time.
