Question about playing games with new people

For three years, I thought game nights were just for my close friends. Last month at a cafe in Seattle, a stranger asked to join our Catan game and it was actually fun. They brought a different way of thinking that made the game feel new. How do you handle bringing new players into your regular group?

Oh man, that reminds me of my buddy's D&D group. They were stuck in a rut, same jokes, same plans.
