My FLGS owner told me my deck boxes were causing card warping and he was right

After 2 years of storing my Magic EDH decks in those cheap Ultra-Pro flimsy plastic boxes, I pulled out my prized foil Gaea's Cradle and found it bent like a banana, so now I'm switching to side-loading boxes from Gamegenic in my local shop in Phoenix.

nah man, those silica packets are a total waste of money. the cheap boxes already let some air in or the cards wouldnt warp at all, and trapping moisture is actually the main thing keeping them from turning into potato chips in dry Phoenix weather. side-loading is just hype, Ive got stacks of $400 foils in my old ultra-pro singles from 2018 that are still perfectly flat.

Phoenix humidity is no joke - those silica packets actually saved my foil doubling season from turning into a taco.

The side-loading boxes are definitely a better choice, but it's not really the box type that causes the warping. It's the humidity getting trapped inside the airtight cheap boxes that does the damage. Gamegenic boxes are still pretty sealed up too, so you might want to toss a silica gel packet in there for extra safety. I switched to those same Gamegenic boxes last year and my foils are flat as a board now, but I also keep my deck in a cooler part of my house away from the AC vent. Just something to watch for with that Arizona heat and your Phoenix setup.
