My copy of Catan literally fell apart mid-game last Friday
I had 6 friends over for game night and was about to win when someone sneezed and the whole board just snapped along a crease I never noticed. Turns out that old cardboard gets brittle after 15 years of use. Does anyone else have a game that survived a hundred plays then just gave up on you suddenly?

Honestly I gotta disagree here. 15 years of use sounds like you got your money's worth and then some. That board didn't fail on you, it did its job for way longer than most games last.

@lunakim brings up a fair point about the lifespan of games, but doesn't that depend on how often you play it? A board that gets pulled out every other week for 15 years is different than one that sits on a shelf. How many games do you own that have seen that kind of regular use without any signs of wear?

Friend of mine had a Monopoly set from the 80s his family used every holiday, and the only thing that finally gave out was the paper money after like 25 years. The board itself was still fine, just a little faded around the edges, you know? So yeah, it really depends on the game and how rough people are with it, not just the raw years of ownership.
