I used to play Catan every Friday night with the same group for 3 years straight

Now I can't even look at a resource card without getting annoyed. Last month my buddy tried to set up a game night and I just said 'nah I'm good' and sat on the couch scrolling my phone. What happened? Honestly I think we just outgrew it. We'd argue over the same old robber placements and someone would always flip the board after losing to a longest road combo. Does anyone else just hit a wall with a game you used to love? Or am I just getting old and grumpy at 31?

Outgrew it" is just code for "I'm too lazy to work through a few arguments with my friends.

Read an article last week that said most people who say they "outgrew" a friendship actually just never learned basic conflict resolution. @victor_adams you're right, it's usually lazy avoidance dressed up like self-growth.

Fully agree with @victor_adams on this one. Quitting Catan cold turkey after three years doesn't sound like outgrowing it, sounds like nobody wanted to be the one to say "hey, can we try a new game or change up how we handle the robber?" Just scrolling your phone while your friend sets up game night? That's not being grumpy, that's avoiding a conversation.
