Warning: the week my mom stopped 'helping' with my laundry ruined four of my favorite shirts
Ngl, I used to complain about my mom shrinking my clothes in the dryer. Then she went on a trip for 10 days and left me to do my own laundry. I accidentally washed a red sock with a pile of white tees and turned them all pink. Ended up dropping $60 at Target to replace them. Has anyone else figured out a way to keep your parents from acting like they're doing you a favor when they're actually messing your stuff up?

Not quite right to blame your mom for ruining clothes when you turned your own whites pink. You said yourself you dropped $60 at Target, so that one's on you. The real problem is you gotta set boundaries early. Tell your parents straight up you want to do your own laundry from now on, but offer to handle yours and theirs as a trade so they don't feel pushed out. A simple rule like "cold water only for my stuff" posted on the machine can save a lot of heartache.

Oh man, I actually read an article about this exact thing. Said the key is to frame it as "I want to help out more" instead of "you messed my stuff up." Parents respond way better to that. Spot on about the boundary thing though.
