Vent: My mom's rule about never buying store brand made me waste $80 on fancy ingredients
Grew up thinking name brand was the only way, so last week I dropped $80 on organic everything for a simple chili and it tasted exactly the same as the $15 version. My mom still swears the expensive stuff matters but I finally used the cheap beans and no one in my family noticed the difference. Anybody else break a parent's shopping rule and feel both free and a little dumb about the years of extra money spent?
Told my friend Sarah this exact thing after she spent a fortune on fancy pasta for a weeknight dinner. She swore the imported stuff was life changing until her kid dumped ketchup all over it and she realized nobody cared about the brand. Now she buys the cheap boxes and saves the good stuff for when guests actually judge you.
