That one thing my dad said about complaining stuck with me for 20 years

I was maybe 12, helping him unload a truck of mulch in July. He was sweating and I kept whining about my hands hurting. He stopped and said "Nobody cares if you're tired. Just finish the job." I thought he was being a jerk back then. But now I see it as his way of saying suck it up and focus on the work instead of the noise.

Did your old man ever circle back later and explain it to you? Mine didn't, drove me nuts for years. But I started using that same mindset when I was framing houses in my twenties. Instead of bitching about my back hurting or the heat, I'd just focus on getting the next wall built. After a while it got easier... not the work, but ignoring the noise in my own head. That's what I took from it.

Heard about a buddy who started doing that with his commute to work.
