Rant: My dad's 'just use bleach' advice ruined 3 loads of laundry
I was at my apartment complex's laundry room 2 days ago trying to get a coffee stain out of a white shirt and followed his tip. Ended up with faded streaks on everything else in the machine, had to toss a $40 hoodie. Who else got cleaning advice from their parents that just made things worse?

Yikes, my mom once told me to use oven cleaner on a pan and it stripped the nonstick coating right off.

And did your mom actually use it on a nonstick pan on purpose? Because that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, oven cleaner is way too harsh for that stuff. I've seen people ruin pans by trying shortcuts like that, it just eats through the coating. Seems like old school cleaning advice was based on what would work on metal or glass, not all this modern engineered stuff. What did she say when you told her it wrecked the pan? Probably blamed you for not doing it right knowing how parents are. Makes you wonder how many other kitchen gadgets got destroyed by their "helpful" tips over the years.

Your dad was probably trying to save you from expensive stain removers and bleach is literally what people used for decades on whites. Sounds like you just dumped it in wrong or used way too much, thats on you not the advice. A lot of those modern hoodies are made with cheap dyes that cant handle basic stuff, so maybe the real problem is the clothing quality. Next time try reading the bottle instructions before blaming someone who was just trying to help.
